Two years without the genius Virxilio Viéitez
Virgilio Viéitez Bertola (Forcarey 1930-2008).
Born in Soutelo Forestry in the town of Pontevedra Forcarey in 1930. He began working in construction with sixteen years and emigrated to Catalonia to exercise a similar job. In July Palamós Pallí met who taught him the craft of photography.
Started working as a photographer on the Costa Brava doing portraits for tourists returned to Galicia in 1955 and soon after opened a photographic studio in his hometown, thus had the opportunity to portray many generations of people from the Land of Mountains almost anonymous.
His photographs are portraits of individuals and groups in social events such as communions, baptisms or funerals, but also in everyday activities, in relation to his technique most of your photos are in black and white even in the seventies did some in color.
He left the photographic activity in the eighties, but in the nineties his work was revalued starring in the representation of the Galician photo editing Fotobienal VIII de Vigo in 1998 and then in the MARCO Contemporary Art Museum in the Exhibit Hall Caixanova de Vigo, in the exhibition “150 Years of Photography in Spain” Mondéjar selected by Publio Lopez who was in La Coruña and Orense, in the sample the taste of Cartier-Bresson in Barcelona, Amsterdam and New York.
He died in the same town that was born on July 15, 2008.
